Built with the kind of grit that belongs in the field, The Rucksack Recurve is a big, hard-working blade inspired by the kind of knife the Ogre himself would have wanted strapped to his rucksack during his years in the Army.
At its heart is a massive 12.5-inch recurve clip point blade, handcrafted from a repurposed Case horseshoe file. Rather than hiding the steel's working past, this knife celebrates it. The blade has been rust blued, giving the steel a deep, rugged finish that complements its old-school character and imposing profile.
The sweeping recurve provides plenty of blade for chopping and camp work, while the clip point gives this oversized knife a surprisingly purposeful tip. Full tang construction carries the steel through the entire handle for a solid, substantial feel worthy of a serious field knife.
For the handle, we paired all that dark, rugged steel with something unexpected: spalted maple dyed a rich, true blue. The spalting creates natural lines and patterns throughout the wood, while the blue dye makes the figure stand out dramatically. No two pieces of spalted maple develop exactly alike, giving this chopper a personality all its own.
This isn't a small belt knife pretending to be tough. It's a rucksack knife—the kind of oversized, versatile blade you strap to your gear when you want one serious piece of steel along for the journey.
For us, it also has a little more meaning. The Rucksack Recurve was designed as the kind of knife the Ogre would have proudly carried on his own rucksack while serving in the Army—rugged, unconventional, and built with a purpose.
