Crafting Custom Sheaths with the Wander Women of Kansas!

At The Ogre's Forge, we pride ourselves on offering unique and hands-on experiences for our community. Recently, we had the incredible opportunity to host the Wander Women of Kansas for the second time. These amazing women first joined us to forge their own knives, and this time, they returned to craft custom sheaths for their blades.

The Wander Women arrived at our shop, each carrying the knives they had previously made. The first step in our sheath-making journey was to carefully measure and cut the leather to fit each knife perfectly. Precision is key in this stage, and Josh guided everyone to ensure their leather pieces were just right.

Once the leather was cut, it was time to edge, sew, and color the sheaths. Each step required attention to detail and a steady hand. The Wander Women embraced the challenge, working diligently to create sheaths that were not only functional but also personalized to their individual styles.

Edging

Edging the leather gives the sheath a polished look and helps prevent fraying. Everyone used special tools to smooth and round the edges, giving their sheaths a professional finish.

Sewing

Next came the sewing. We were able to recently acquire a new sewing machine just for this part so it came quick and easy!

Coloring

Finally, it was time to add color. Whether opting for natural hues or bold, vibrant shades, each participant colored their sheath to reflect their personal taste. This step allowed for creativity to shine, and the end results were as diverse as the women themselves.

A Celebration of Craftsmanship

The event was more than just a workshop; it was a celebration of craftsmanship, community, and the joy of creating something with your own hands. The Wander Women of Kansas left with not only a beautiful, custom-made sheath but also a sense of accomplishment and memories of a fantastic experience.

At The Ogre's Forge, we are honored to host such talented and passionate individuals. We look forward to many more events where we can share the art of blacksmithing and leatherworking with our community.
